When you invest in a dining room set your hope is that it will last you for years to come. Dining room furniture isn’t cheap and replacing it can get expensive.
Let’s take a look at design ideas that can give your dining room and current furniture new life without overspending.
Slipcovers
What ages your dining room furniture the most? The cushions! Luckily you can cover them up without touching a needle and thread. Slipcovers start at around $20 a piece and go up from there. When you think of slip covers you may picture long skirted covers with bows on the back. If this style doesn’t fit the style of your room there are plenty of other choices to pick from. As pictured, you can also mix and match slipcover styles.
A Bold New Color
Drastically change your dining room with a new coat of paint. A gallon will run you between $30-$100 and depending on the size of your room and the color your painting over you’ll need 1-3 gallons. This great chocolate color pictured above makes the yellows pop and goes beautifully with the hardwood floors. Oh, and look! Slipcovers!
Choose warm colors for your dining room walls to set the mood. Even though this room is filled with brightly colored accessories it’s still warm and inviting because of the rich chocolate walls.
A New Centerpiece
Here is a great example of a dramatic centerpiece. With only three accessories it’s still an eye catcher. The inexpensive (and free if you have some in your backyard) twigs tower and drape over the table. These can be swapped out each season with leafed twigs in the fall and long-stemmed pussy willows in the winter.
When decorating with vases use different sizes with the tallest in the middle and the shorter vases to the outside. For inexpensive glass vases visit your local craft store.
