The reaction to Pantone’s Color of the Year has been entertaining to say the least. Some think it looks like red(ish ) mud, others think it looks like dark blood and really, what the naysayers are saying is that it’s an odd choice. Most aren’t sold on the new color and many joke that they’ll be sticking with marsala wine and marsala chicken- leaving the color associated with their favorite foods and not their interiors. Yet Pantone stands by their surprising color choice calling it “full-bodied” a “grounded statement color” and “strong accent”.
Before we knock the color of the year for 2015 let’s take a look at its possibilities. After all, we don’t have to paint every wall. A little marsala here and there could be just what your house needs to bring it into the new year.
Accent walls have come and gone with the ever-changing trends, but for this room -with its unique layout- the marsala walls create an effortless transition between rooms. The marsala vase is a great example of how accessories can help the color flow throughout the room.
Many home owners hesitate to paint their walls such dark colors, but as you can see from the picture above, the right lighting can combat dark paint and keep a room bright. This bathroom is lit with both natural light and beautiful overhead lighting.
Another example of lighting in a dark room is the picture above. Marsala can definitely take over a room. The decorator for this home chose to use a lot of white and added more bright color with the yellow chairs and a colorful painting over the fireplace.
Not ready to cover a room from ceiling to floor? Not only did this home owner keep it simple with one wall of paint, but also covered their chairs and added a single marsala pillow.
