Why Your Home Isn’t Selling

Price is the number one reason a home won’t sell because a reasonably priced home doesn’t sit on the market long. The price will either make people line-up outside your door or make you wonder if your home is invisible. But what if your home is well priced and you’ve had buyer after buyer come look at it with no offers? Assuming your pricing is right on the money (pun intended), here are three other reasons why your home may be struggling to make a good impression.
  • Smells- As much as you love your cinnamon apple scented candle not all potential buyers are going to love it like you do. For those of you with pets, their smells don’t bother you a bit, but as mild as they may be non-pet owning home buyers will pick up on them immediately and it can be a big turnoff. Any strong odder makes buyers wonder how well the home has been kept.
  • Dirt- As with odders, a dirty home makes buyers assume that the inner workings of the structure have been neglected as well. A stray dust bunny under the couch is one thing, but a kitchen overflowing with dirty dishes and a shower covered in soap scum is not going to help sell your property.
  •  Projects- When buyers see wallpaper they are imagining the weekend they’ll have to spend taking it down while their friends enjoy cooking out and relaxing. The same goes for the overgrown backyard, the kitchen that needs to be gutted and shower that needs to be re-grouted.

If you’re having trouble selling your home it’s time to take a good honest look at its presentation and re-evaluate your selling strategy. The right buyer is out there and you don’t want them to miss out on owning your home because it’s giving a bad impression.
